Wearing hosiery is a choice many women make instead of wearing socks, or simply wearing sandals without either, but in the work place that choice may not be given, it might in fact be an office requirement that legs are covered. But what to choose, stockings or tights? cheap tights are made to cover the whole leg and most of the hip in a single item of clothing, thus they work well with both long pants and skirts and look professional as well as complying with the office dress code. Sheer black tights without a seam also don’t require fiddling. Stockings on the other hand are considered by many to be a lot more stylish, and at the same time risque, and may not completely comply with the dress code though will almost always attract admiring glances. Stockings are often considered more comfortable to wear since they end mid thigh. With a longer skirt either stockings or cheap tights will be more than suitable, and the same goes for wearing long pants, the difficulty comes when wearing a shorter skirt where there is the possibility that a hint of the stocking top or suspender might be visible. Very few office dress codes would be willing to overlook a visible stocking top if can be considered to be distracting or too forward, in much the same way that wearing a low cleavage top might be thought to be inappropriate. Employers will often ask staff who wear stockings to be aware of their movements or face disciplinary action. It might not seem fair if your outfit looks good, but office workplaces are not nightclubs, and neither are they places where dressing to attract attention is considered desirable. Considering who you will be working with, and what their likely response to stockings will be should be top of your mind when choosing your outfit for the day. Choosing stockings or cheap tights wisely is no different to picking appropriate colors, in the workplace a certain appearance is expected, typically neutral or black fell length hosiery, with a business suit or smart skirt and blouse combo, so choosing to wear stockings only requires you remain conservatively dressed. Last, the time of year may have some bearing on whether you choose stockings or cheap tights, with most women agreeing cheap tights are uncomfortable in summer, whilst stockings are uncomfortable in winter. To be completely safe and comfortable, have both in your wardrobe, but for work purposes, try to wear longer skirts that adequately hide the stocking top so that you are never likely to infringe the office dress code
