Old Doors as Decorations

Whether a home is new or old, decorating with antique furniture and accessories can allow a home to really invoke a time period that’s different from today and one of the most interesting methods of decorating is using antique doors as large accents inside the home. For example, a pair of antique wooden doors could be stationed on either side of a large bank of windows to create large, decorative anchors to balance the room. This is especially effective in a room where the doors are made of reclaimed wood and utilized as wall art giving diners something to look at while at a dinner party.

Another way to use doors in a decorative setting is to employ an antique barn door as a backdrop for a mantelpiece. Whether the door is cut in half to allow for a fire place or whether a large mirror is placed in the center of the door, the reclaimed wood doors available on many of the nation’s oldest barns have the potential to serve as a large and striking focal point inside a room and can even be stained or painted a particular color to match well with the interior style.

An interesting type of choice for a kitchen would be an iron door that serves as a beautiful design accent and covering for a pantry. It’s often the case that the pantry door in a kitchen is just a plain, boring rectangle, but using an antique iron door or even a new door can add an interesting vibrancy to a kitchen decor.
