| Baseball: Everman tops Fort Worth Trimble Tech in title game (Posted 3/4/2010 12:26 pm) BY RICKY MOORE Mooresports@thestragroup.com With his team off to a 5-0 start Everman baseball coach Mark Garcia is cautiously optimistic. “We are off to a good start, but it’s early,” Garcia said. “Right now we want to improve inning to inning, game by game.” The Bulldogs reached the title game with wins over Dallas Thomas Jefferson (14-1), O.D. Wyatt (13-0) and three-inning shutout victory over Venus. In the title game, Sam Fry tossed a two-hitter as the Bulldogs defeated Trimble Tech 4-1. Everman parlayed five hits, all extra base hits, and numerous Tech errors into four runs. Alex Barela tripled in the win while Edgar Sanchez hit a pair of doubles. “Saturday was a good test for us,” Garcia said. “They threw a left-hander who was pretty good. The second time through the order we started hitting. Everman produced three all-tournament performers in pitcher/catcher Fry, shortstop/pitcher Ryan Mostad and middle infielder Sanchez. The Bulldogs begin play today at the Sunnyvale Tournament with pool. The teams in Everman’s pool are Sunnyvale, Van and Lake Worth. “It should be a good test for us,” Garcia said. “Two of the teams in our pool were playoff teams last year.” Everman opens District 8-4A play Tuesday hosting Joshua. The Bulldogs play at the Saginaw Tournment March 11-13. |
